Description

A broad front of governments and companies have expressed concern over the entry into force of the EU's anti-deforestation regulation on December 30, which bans the import of raw materials such as cocoa without guaranteeing traceability and respect for forests. Critics, including producer countries and the chocolate industry, are calling for an extension, citing possible supply disruptions and operational complications. However, environmental associations support its urgent implementation to halt forest loss. Large chocolate companies are calling for more clarity, while the ICCO does not foresee any shortages.
