Description
In the framework of the workshop "Towards a new generation of public policies for agri-food systems", held on August 28, 2024 at the IICA-Panama Representation, Martín E. Piñeiro presented "A new generation of public policies for agri-food systems: characterizing the context and new challenges." The presentation analyzes how the conceptualization of agriculture has changed substantially in recent decades, broadening its focus towards more diverse production systems and integrating new social actors. In addition, it highlights that agri-food systems are much more complex than traditional agriculture, playing a crucial role in economic development strategies. The endowment of natural resources, the agrarian structure and the political orientations of each country are key factors in the formulation of public policies, which must be adapted to international challenges.
