Description

The concept note presented as a preliminary draft of the workshop "Towards a new generation of public policies for agri-food systems", held on August 28 and 29, 2024 at the IICA Representation in Panama, highlights the urgent need to rethink public policies to address the complexity of modern agri-food systems. The note emphasizes that traditional policies, designed in historical contexts of industrialization and import substitution, are no longer sufficient to address current multidimensional challenges. In this regard, a systemic, inclusive and evidence-based approach is proposed, which will allow for a comprehensive and sustainable transformation of agri-food systems in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition, it highlights the importance of having bold new policies that respond to emerging demands, such as food security, environmental sustainability and technological innovation.
