The report on climate and development in Honduras, prepared by the World Bank Group, addresses the challenges and opportunities facing the country in relation to climate change. Honduras, despite having grown at the average rate in the Latin American and Caribbean region, remains one of the countries with the greatest inequality and poverty. It highlights Honduras' high vulnerability to extreme climate-induced natural phenomena, which have already had significant impacts on its economic and social development. Climate change is expected to intensify these phenomena, exacerbating existing challenges, especially in sectors such as agriculture, water management, and natural resources. In addition, the report highlights the need for Honduras to adopt policies and strategies that allow the country to develop resilience to these climate risks and take advantage of opportunities for synergistic, low-carbon development. Priorities are proposed in areas such as macroeconomic policy, social inclusion, sustainable natural resource management, and infrastructure improvement, with a focus on ensuring that climate policies also contribute to reducing poverty and inequality.
