Description

The study examines the crucial role of innovation in the forest sector in responding to global challenges. The report highlights the reduction of deforestation in some countries, although forests still face significant pressures due to climate change and increasing demand for forest products. The importance of innovation for the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of forests is highlighted, considering the need for new technologies, inclusive policies and innovative financing models. In addition, it presents 18 case studies that demonstrate how innovation in the forest sector can generate positive impacts at a global level. These cases include approaches to stop deforestation, restore degraded lands and use forests sustainably. Examples include improved forest governance in countries such as Kenya and Nigeria, the use of data to finance conservation in Brazil, and the implementation of agroforestry linked to carbon trading in Mozambique. These innovations show how the combination of science, technology and local knowledge can boost resilience and sustainability in diverse regions.
