It addresses environmental regulations that could restrict agri-food trade in Latin America and the Caribbean Through monitoring of trade barriers, studying successful local initiatives, strengthening technical capacities, and promoting regional consensus for sustainable agri-food trade The regulations addressed include the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR 2023/1115); Determination of bioenergy crops with high risk of indirect land use change (ILUC); Directive on packaging and packaging waste, and the Directive on mandatory sustainability reporting for community enterprises The approach to these regulations emphasizes the importance of transparency in trade norms and subsidy schemes to facilitate constructive dialogues between countries.
