Description

This article analyzes how sustainability commitments by private sector actors are emerging as interventions to reduce global deforestation, with a particular focus on the impact of forest conservation in areas where commodity production is a major driver of deforestation It examines the potential of the cocoa sector in Colombia to simultaneously reduce deforestation and promote peace, as proposed in the country's Cocoa, Forests, and Peace Initiative The results show that despite widespread cocoa production in Colombia, cocoa has not been a significant driver of deforestation in the past fifteen years This suggests that efforts to prevent deforestation in this sector in Colombia have followed global trends and are not necessarily due to a clear connection between cocoa production and deforestation.
