Technical report
07/08/2024
Description
The study conducts a comprehensive analysis of agricultural public policies in the region. The analysis identifies that levels of support vary significantly between countries in the region, influenced by factors such as crop type, country size and local political priorities. Regarding fisheries and aquaculture, the document highlights that this sector is key for some countries, but faces considerable challenges in terms of data collection and consistent support policies. Peru, Chile and Mexico are the largest producers in the region, concentrating the majority of marine catches. The study concludes that, although there are efforts to align agricultural policies with sustainability and food security objectives, there are still discrepancies in effective implementation and adaptation to specific national contexts. The need for a more integrated and coordinated approach at the regional level is highlighted to improve the efficiency of policies and their positive impact on economic and environmental development.
