Description

The presentation by Dr. Joaquín Arias, Coordinator of OPSAa-IICA, at the VI Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Agriculture of the Andean Community, held on August 1, 2024, in La Paz, Bolivia, addresses the need to develop a new generation of public policies for agri-food systems in Latin America and the Caribbean in response to the various challenges and changes in the current international context. The importance of policies facilitating access to and use of technologies by small and medium-sized producers is emphasized. The challenge of increasing resilience to climate change by reducing vulnerability and improving preparedness is also highlighted. In the face of these challenges, a change in policy strategies and approaches is proposed, focusing on innovation, transformative governance, and the implementation of new policy instruments.
