Identifying Climate-smart agriculture research needs
Scientific article
19/03/2018
Description
The aim of the article is to address the challenges facing climate-smart agriculture, which has three simultaneous areas of action: climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation and ensuring global food security. The article identifies several knowledge gaps related to the implementation and measurable outcomes of these alternatives. These gaps are addressed in three areas: conceptualization, implementation and the implications for policy and decision makers. The need for further interdisciplinary research on the theoretical basis of the concept and the necessary transformations in agricultural and land-use systems is underlined. Policy tools need to incorporate an integrated set of measures supported by reliable metrics.
