Description

The agrifood system has been largely ignored in climate change efforts, yet its greenhouse gas emissions are significant enough to prevent the world from keeping average temperatures from rising above 1.5°C. Emissions from agrifood must reach net zero by 2050 to meet this target. The report "Recipe for a Livable Planet: Achieving Net Zero Emissions in the Agrifood System" presents a strategic framework to reduce agrifood emissions, offering measures that can cut nearly a third of global emissions while ensuring food security. These actions also improve food supply reliability, strengthen resilience to climate change, and protect vulnerable populations. The guide suggests actions across six key areas: investments, incentives, information, innovation, institutions, and inclusion, and calls for collaboration among various stakeholders to make agrifood a key player in addressing climate change.
