According to the latest Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020 report (FAO), the total area of forests in the world is 4.06 billion hectares, which corresponds to 31 percent of the total land area. More than half of the world's forest area is found in just five countries, with one country in the region, Brazil, having the second largest forest area.
Due to the importance of the study of forests, this document analyzes at regional and national level, topics such as forest cover, its composition, land use changes, and the area covered by mangroves.
