Description

The objective is to provide a guide for the design and implementation of agricultural insurance for family farming in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). This document seeks to improve the resilience of family farmers to natural disasters and other risks that affect agricultural production, thus promoting food security and reducing rural poverty. The study reveals that family farming in LAC is highly vulnerable to natural disasters, especially extreme weather events that represent 70% of disasters in the region. This vulnerability is due to the limited capacity of family farmers to absorb and recover from adverse impacts. Agricultural insurance stands out as fundamental for risk management in agriculture, helping to mitigate the impacts of disasters on agricultural production, improving resilience and facilitating recovery.
