The Agricultural Census investigates agricultural establishments and activities, covering characteristics of the producer and the establishment, rural economy and employment, livestock, cultivation and agroindustry. This census is carried out every five years and collects data from all production units dedicated wholly or partially to agricultural, forestry or aquaculture activities. Started in 1920, it has suffered interruptions and changes in its periodicity. In 2006, it was innovated with the inclusion of digital technology and detailed address registration. The 2017 census introduced new technologies to improve coverage and accuracy. Provides information on the total number of establishments, area, producer characteristics, agricultural practices, resources, machinery, occupation, and animal and plant production. The results are presented at the national, regional and municipal levels, and data from different censuses may not be strictly comparable due to differences in the reference periods.
