Description

The report highlights that Latin America and the Caribbean leads in the use of renewable energies, mainly hydroelectric, but faces challenges due to social and environmental resistance. Despite this, the region has great potential in sources such as wind, solar, geothermal and biomass. Some countries have demonstrated that renewable electricity can be more economical than that generated by fossil or nuclear sources, and that the combination of various renewable sources can enable almost entirely renewable electricity systems. The paper offers guidelines for a just energy transition, addressing these challenges and proposing solutions.
