Description

The report presented in San José, Costa Rica, by over 15 institutions from Latin America and the Caribbean provides a comprehensive overview of the current situation and prospects of the bioeconomy in the region. It highlights the strategic role of the bioeconomy, emphasizing the importance of science, technology, and innovation, as well as sustainable utilization of biological resources. Latin America and the Caribbean have enormous potential in this field, given their biodiversity and natural resources, although there is recognition of the need to accelerate efforts and increase investment in this area. Additionally, there is discussion on the importance of identifying sustainable and transformative development pathways, especially in relation to climate change and the protection of vulnerable groups such as indigenous peoples.
