Description

The report highlights three key factors for driving large-scale restoration through the carbon market: the diversity of restoration approaches, the need to overcome barriers between public and private lands, and the integration of areas with mandatory restoration with those of alternative land use. It emphasizes the importance of adapting regulatory and institutional requirements to allow for the adoption of diverse restoration modalities within a single project, as well as implementing innovative contractual models and socio-environmental safeguards to restore publicly-owned areas with land tenure issues. Additionally, it underscores the need to promote synergies between mandatory restoration policies and address regulatory and procedural issues to expand restoration in areas of alternative land use. The ongoing revision of the National Plan for Native Vegetation Recovery (PLANAVEG) is identified as an opportunity to incorporate these factors into government policies.
