Description

Specialists gathered in San José to discuss the volatility of international food and fertilizer prices and their impact on Central America. Organized by the World Bank and IICA, the workshop highlighted the need for innovative policies to strengthen the resilience of agri-food systems and address food insecurity. The setback of 15 years in the region in terms of poverty and hunger was emphasized, with 82 million people in extreme poverty and 43.2 million facing hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean. The importance of regional and international collaboration to implement sustainable and equitable solutions was underscored. Participants shared policy actions and recommendations, highlighting the need to strengthen agriculture for sustainable development and food security.
