Description

The Global Forum on Farm Policy & Innovation (GFFPI) led an initiative that brought together representatives from the OECD, industry experts, and stakeholders from various regions to address the relationship between trade and agricultural sustainability. Faced with divergent perspectives and challenges of local adaptation in global agri-food systems, the urgency is highlighted by climate change and the lack of a clear multilateral trade policy for sustainable agriculture. The initiative advocates for global dialogues to foster understanding, improve international cooperation, and develop principles and metrics for sustainable food systems. In a recent participatory workshop, practical solutions were discussed, such as creating a global knowledge exchange platform and integrating outcome-based approaches into trade policy. The importance of data, transparency, and global collaboration between governments and the private sector was emphasized.
