Agricultural Resilience in Latin America: Coping with Abrupt Sunlight Reduction Scenarios
Technical report
01/02/2024
Description
This paper assesses preparedness and possible management measures in Latin America for Abrupt Reduction in Sunshine Scenarios (ERALS). An ERALS can be triggered by various catastrophes, such as a climate-changing volcanic eruption, an asteroid or a nuclear war. Such events release particles into the upper atmosphere that could generate a sudden decrease in sunlight, temperatures and precipitation, hindering plant growth. This would lead to massive crop failure and global famine.
