Inducing the adoption of conservation technologies: lessons from the Ecuadorian Andes

The article examines the effectiveness of conservation incentive programs compared to offering conservation technologies alongside measures that enhance short-term agricultural profitability. It focuses on a case study in the Ecuadorian Andes, where the non-governmental organization CARE has successfully implemented this approach. The results show that the adoption of terraces increases significantly when combined with modifications to the agricultural system, such as new crops and biological barriers.
