Description

Water, essential as a natural resource and global public good, plays a crucial role in water security for sustainable development, especially in the context of climate change. Despite its importance, underinvestment has led to stresses on water resources and deficiencies in water services. To achieve sustainable development goals, significant flows of public, concessional and private capital are required. Governments must lead reforms to create enabling conditions and attract financing, while international financial institutions and the private sector must collaborate in this effort. The World Bank Group recognizes the interconnectedness of water, climate, food and energy, and its strategic framework seeks to optimize public-private contributions to improve planning and fund mobilization in the water sector. It aims to facilitate private sector participation to provide financing, innovation and expertise.
