Description

A group of more than 30 people, including international authorities and experts, met in Costa Rica to discuss the role of agri-food trade in Latin America and the Caribbean in sustainable development and global food security. The two-day workshop, convened by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and IICA, addressed issues such as regional cooperation in trade, changes in geopolitics and their impact on trade, and actions to strengthen the multilateral trading system. The aim is to promote the region as a stable supplier of agrifood products, with a call for the commitment of the countries and the support of international organisations.
