The CAS, made up of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, has recognized the importance of agrobiotechnology and has created a legal framework to regulate genetically modified living organisms (GMOs). Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay have specific regulations for GMOs for agricultural use. Brazil has a specific biosafety law. Bolivia, meanwhile, has proposed prohibiting the import, production and marketing of GMOs.
