Description
The Andean Mountain Initiative (AMI) recently published the synthesis "Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change in High Mountain Areas of the Andean Region". The document compiles the main findings of a regional study organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Consortium for the Sustainable Development of the Andean Ecoregion (CONDESAN), and prepared by DEUMAN, with the purpose of contributing to regional, national and local processes of adaptation to climate change in high Andean communities and ecosystems. The study analyzes available information on vulnerability to climate change at the Andean continental level and in seven watersheds in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela, selected and characterized in coordination with the focal points of the IAM member countries. Special emphasis is placed on economic activities such as agriculture, livestock and tourism, the main local livelihoods, and their relationship with water resources in high Andean areas.
