Description
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has submitted to the President of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, a proposal for a National Regional Development Strategy through 2050. This strategy aims to strengthen planning at all levels of the State and define a development model that promotes more balanced, inclusive and sustainable growth in the country. The proposal is based on five strategic axes that address economic diversification, social inclusion, climate change adaptation, regional integration and governance. This strategy is considered a framework document that will contribute to strengthening the analytical and applied capacities of the country's planning institutions and to the process of national reflection on social, economic, environmental and spatial development. The regional scale will make it possible to address the country's richness and diversity in its ecological, cultural and socioeconomic dimensions, with a focus on structural changes that generate synergies and cumulative processes of greater scope. The proposal is based on various inputs, including citizen consultation and existing policies, and has been advised by ECLAC's Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES).
