Description

This report continues the series of Global Food Assessments (GFA) in low- and middle-income countries that was initiated in the late 1970s by the Economic Research Service (ERS) of the United States Department of Agriculture. Focusing on the dimensions of availability and access within food security, this report employs a demand-driven model that integrates income, food prices, and food supply. The analysis conducted under the framework of the International Food Security Assessment (IFSA) assists the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and its stakeholders in evaluating food security across 83 countries within five regions: Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, the Former Soviet Union, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The 2023 report draws on observed country-level commodity prices up to December 2022, as well as macroeconomic and international agricultural commodity price projections finalized by August 2022, aiming to estimate and project the potential impact on present and future levels of food insecurity until 2033.
