Description

Despite the challenges, world coffee production has grown steadily over the last 50 years. However, it will be difficult to maintain this trend due to the continuous increase in production costs, as problems related to the negative impacts of climate change and the increased incidence of pests and diseases. A key to meeting these challenges will be to use coffee genetic resources conserved in field genebanks, protected areas and the forest to develop improved varieties with tolerance to drought stress, resistance to pests and diseases, high cup quality (the sum of aromatic intensity, aromatic quality, acidity, astringency, bitterness, and bitterness), and high yields (the sum of aromatic intensity, aromatic quality, acidity, astringency, bitterness, and bitterness). In an effort to address these challenges, the Crop Trust has partnered with World Coffee Research to develop the Global Coffee Genetic Resources Conservation Strategy. The goal of this strategy is to ensure the conservation and use of coffee genetic resources for a positive and sustainable future for the crop and for those who depend on coffee for their livelihoods.
