Cumulative impact assessment and management is often cited as one of the most difficult challenges in both ensuring environmental and social approval of projects and meeting project financing requirements in Latin America and the Caribbean. With this Guide, government entities and civil society could promote a collaborative approach to managing cumulative impacts on valuable ecosystem components that represent the interest of a wide range of stakeholders who are seeking "green" infrastructure development while maintaining the sustainability of the natural environment and the diverse livelihoods of all who live there.
