Description

The technical report presents the current situation of the potato industry in the country, in response to the demonstrations of national producers who have carried out marches and strikes. The growers argue that massive potato imports are negatively affecting the domestic industry. This is attributed to the lack of favorable agricultural policies for small and medium-sized producers, as well as the lack of adequate financing and training for farmers. The study provides general information on the nutritional properties and varieties of potatoes, as well as national statistical data on harvested area, production, yield, and foreign trade. It also presents data on the average wholesale and retail price of potatoes in some of the country's cities. Finally, the report offers recommendations to overcome the obstacles that are affecting the potato industry.
