Climate-smart Livestock Production and Land Restoration in the Uruguayan Rangelands

Start Date: 14/02/2019
End Date: 30/09/2023

Description

The objective is to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and the mitigation of climate change by promoting multifunctional sustainable forest management in productive forest landscapes. The main actions of the project included institutional strengthening, implementation of sustainable practices, and management, monitoring and evaluation (M&E). The actions were carried out at the national and regional level, covering specific areas such as the Basaltic Basin, the Gondwana Sedimentary Basin, the Eastern Sierras and the Crystalline Shield. A national climate-smart livestock management (CSLM) strategy was designed and a training program for extension agents was implemented. Additionally, research and monitoring systems were developed to evaluate the impacts of these practices on climate change mitigation, land restoration, and improved livestock productivity.
