Mainstreaming biodiversity into mountain agricultural and pastoral landscapes of relevant ecosystems in Eastern Cuba

Fecha de inicio: 05/01/2022
Fecha de fin: 05/01/2027

Description

The objective is to reduce pressures on key fragile mountain and pre-mountain ecosystems of Eastern Cuba, by mainstreaming biodiversity in agriculture/livestock production, and implementing integrated landscape management (ILM) and planning. The project will implement an integrated landscape management approach which will focus on the rehabilitation of key ecosystems that contributes to the resilience of agroecosystems and communities and diversify production for self-consumption and local markets to increase socioeconomic resilience and reduce vulnerabilities. It will build on FAO's work in two sectors: agricultural and livestock production. The project will benefit globally in important biodiversity key (KBA), currently under pressure from agricultural landscapes. It will involve local actors, especially producers, from the design and throughout all phases to guarantee its sustainability. The intervention areas will cover the Sierra Maestra and the Eastern Cordillera of Guantánamo.
