Description

The Animal Production and Improvement Program aims to promote the production of animals with high genetic quality to benefit livestock producers at the national level. The program conducts research and production activities in the areas of pig farming, tilapia farming, beekeeping, and sheep farming, with the objective of evaluating different technologies related to the development of these activities and the production and marketing of high-quality breeding stock and genetically superior animals for fattening. Lines of work for research, productive development, and knowledge transfer include: a) Pig farming: The project enhances the productive capacities of farmers located in different areas of the country through training on topics such as feeding, reproduction, and good farming practices. b) Tilapia farming: Reproduction ponds are available to offer genetic material from red and black tilapia species. c) Beekeeping: Commercial honey production boxes are available to offer training in beekeeping. d) Sheep farming: A breeding farm will be established at the Playitas Experimental Station in Comayagua, offering purebred and commercial genetic stock of sheep breeds.
