Sustainable climate-adapted territories in Latin America

Fecha de inicio: 01/01/2023
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2023

Description

This project supports the implementation of climate-adapted sustainable agriculture (CSAA) technologies and practices and community participation strategies. The project ensures that this implementation is carried out through participatory approaches and generates evidence to support the scaling up of ASAC across national and regional stakeholders. For example, some of the activities include the implementation of baseline studies, joint work with local stakeholders and the development of context-specific climate services for each sustainable climate-adapted territory (TeSAC) in Latin America using agroclimatic information and communication technologies. The objective of this research is for farmers and organized indigenous communities in Cauca (Colombia) to achieve sustainable food security for themselves and their families through the construction of local adaptation plans and the adoption of ASAC practices and technologies. In addition, the research aims to enable farmers in El Tuma-La Dalia (Nicaragua) and Trifinio (Guatemala and Honduras) to implement ASAC options including the use of alternatives such as agroforestry and agroclimatic services. TeSAC farmers are being prepared to use agroclimatic information and identify adaptation measures with mitigation co-benefits that can be implemented on their farms. In addition, farmers can use this information to support their decision-making processes. The results of the TeSACs are being used as evidence to implement local adaptation plans in other territories.
