Developing Climate-Smart Villages in Latin America

The project implements the Climate-Smart Villages (CSV) approach in Cauca (Colombia), El Tuma-La Dalia (Nicaragua) and Trifinio (Guatemala and Honduras) to strengthen the resilience, food security and livelihoods of smallholder farmers in the face of climate variability and change. It promotes the adoption of climate-smart agriculture options with mitigation co-benefits, including agroforestry systems and agroclimatic services, through local adaptation plans, participatory early warning systems and the integration of ancestral knowledge with scientific information. It applies a gender equity approach and generates local evidence and planning guidelines to support the scaling up of these options by national and regional stakeholders.
