Description

Regional early-action support project designed to fast-track readiness and implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework by providing financial and technical assistance to GEF-eligible Latin American and Caribbean countries. The initiative supports the review and alignment of national biodiversity targets, National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), policy and institutional frameworks, monitoring systems and biodiversity financing with the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Observations

GEF project 11023, Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support (LAC 1), is a regional GEF-7 Enabling Activity. The GEF Agency is the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Participating countries are Argentina, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia and Brazil. The project is part of the global early-action support programme for implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework and supports the review and alignment of national targets, NBSAPs, policy and institutional frameworks, monitoring systems and biodiversity finance mechanisms. The GEF records a Project Grant of USD 1,917,811 and no co-financing for this operation.
