The objective of the project is to improve the income, employment opportunities, food security, and living conditions of the rural poor population, with a focus on social inclusion and gender equity, and with the aim of reducing poverty and extreme poverty. The population considered as direct beneficiaries of the project will consist of 11,000 poor rural families located in 36 municipalities in the departments of Lempira, La Paz, and Intibucá. This also includes the 826 rural families from the 11 municipalities in the departments of Atlántida, Cortés, and Santa Bárbara, corresponding to Horizontes del Norte (with an estimated total of beneficiaries of 33,000 families/264,000 people), who are associated with legally constituted rural organizations. The target group of the project includes: (a) small agricultural producers with limitations in accessing productive resources and varying degrees of organization and market linkage; (b) rural artisans with incipient organization and weak market linkages; and (c) rural micro-entrepreneurs and small-scale traders.
