Improvement of Organic Pineapple Cultivation in Agroforestry Systems

Start Date: 01/02/2022
End Date: 31/12/2024

Description

Currently, remnants of the subversive group, referred to as narcoterrorists, still exist. The various operations carried out by the military and local patrols (ronderos) have not been able to completely dismantle the Sendero Luminoso camps due to the rugged geography of the region, which includes inaccessible mountain ranges and virgin jungles where the subversive group operates. The lack of state assistance to address this serious situation led to the implementation of inadequate strategies in certain areas. Native families and small settler farmers, pressured by illegal loggers, handed over their forest resources in exchange for food, medicine, and clothing, or turned to the illicit cultivation of coca. Currently, the coca eradication program is significantly affecting the population of the Pichis and Palcazú river basins, where coca cultivation in these areas is being eradicated, causing a severe and sustained economic crisis. One of the economically significant alternative solutions is pineapple cultivation, as it is an export product.
