Implementation of Ecuador's National Biosafety Framework under the Biosafety Programme

Start Date: 20/07/2018
End Date: 31/01/2022

Description

Ecuador, through its Ministry of Environment, implemented activities to support biosafety management measures for genetically modified organisms. The initiative sought to complete a viable and transparent national biosafety framework, strengthen human and institutional capacities, develop sectoral regulations and harmonized technical standards, prepare technical guidelines, generate baseline information, assess public opinion regarding biotechnology, GMOs and biosafety, and evaluate the project's administrative management. These actions supported Ecuador's obligations under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
