GU-T1328 : Long-term decarbonization strategy Guatemala

Start Date: 08/09/2022
End Date: 31/12/2024

Description

Support Guatemala in the process of decarbonization of its economy through the creation of a Long Term Decarbonization Strategy (LTS), aligned with the UNFCCC decarbonization goals for 2050, based on the DDPLAC initiative, whose validation will be done under a process of participation and dialogue between different actors from the public, private and civil society sectors. The specific objectives are: (i) facilitate national stakeholder engagement to understand how decarbonization can help advance sectoral and macroeconomic development objectives to improve both the relevance of local analysis and stakeholder buy-in at the national level; (ii) use modeling to assess options to achieve zero net emissions while advancing objectives to inform government design of sectoral pathways in the LTS; (iii) build national analytical capacity to meet the targets and to enhance long-term project sustainability; (iv) create a policy roadmap to inform relevant decision makers on viable and effective options for implementing the LTS; and (v) use the results to communicate the feasibility and benefits of decarbonization in Guatemala and the region.
