Seeds Project

Start Date: 01/07/2022
End Date: 2022

Description

Project implemented by Ecuador Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to support more than 20,000 small and medium-sized agricultural producers during the 2022 summer production cycle through subsidized certified seeds, phytosanitary inputs, fertilizers and urea. The mechanism covers up to 70% of agricultural input costs and requires beneficiaries to be registered on the Ministry platform and make a co-payment equivalent to between 30% and 50% of the commercial value of the corresponding input package.

Observations

The official Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock source reports a USD 14,000,000 budget and states that input delivery began on July 1, 2022. The project targets more than 20,000 small and medium-sized producers of bananas, rice, maize, potatoes, coffee, pastures, cocoa, plantains, beans, peppers, tree tomatoes, avocados and other fruits. Public support may cover up to 70% of the cost of certified seeds, pest and disease control inputs, fertilizers and urea. Beneficiaries make a co-payment of between 30% and 50% of the commercial value. The source does not provide an aggregate monetary value for those co-payments, so no quantified counterpart amount is recorded.
