Description

Support the successful proof of concept of an inclusive aquaculture model of sea cucumber on the Panamanian Caribbean Coast to demonstrate the adaptability of the species in that geographical marine ecosystem and determine its technical, environmental and economic viability at a scale production . Specifically, the pilot is looking to achieve a suitable first harvest of 2 species of sea cucumbers by the end of 2021, and accelerate the design of an inclusive and sustainable business model for the scale up stage. IDB Lab will fund: i) integration of further diagnostic technologies to improve the survival rate in larval rearing and nursery, ii) creation of the coastal community out-grower regime, i.e. the model of community involvement.
