Description

A training and collaborative research program that promotes food security and economic growth by providing opportunities for scientists, researchers, and policymakers from developing and middle-income countries. Each participant works individually with a mentor at a United States university, research center, or government agency, usually for 8 to 12 weeks. The mentor later visits the participant's home institution to continue the collaboration.

Observations

The program was established in March 2004 and remains active. Areas of work include agronomy, veterinary science, nutrition, food safety, sanitary and phytosanitary matters, natural resources, agricultural biotechnology, agricultural economics, and agricultural policy. No aggregate budget is recorded because the official source reviewed does not publish an unambiguous current amount for the entire initiative.
