AgriStability 2026 Support for Alberta Farmers Facing Extreme Moisture

Start Date: 26/08/2026
End Date: 01/10/2026

Description

The governments of Canada and Alberta modified AgriStability to support farmers and ranchers affected by extreme moisture during the 2026 growing season. Alberta opened late participation until October 1, 2026, for producers who did not enrol before the original April 30 deadline and increased the interim payment rate from 50 percent to 75 percent of the estimated final payment to provide funds sooner and improve cash flow. AgriStability provides whole-farm protection when a producer's income margin falls below 70 percent of its historical average and covers 80 cents for every additional dollar of decline, up to a maximum individual payment of CAD 3 million. Late participation is subject to a 20 percent benefit reduction and payment of the required upfront fee by October 1.

Observations

DRAFT WITHOUT AN AGGREGATE BUDGET. The source does not disclose the total budget allocated to the 2026 AgriStability changes in Alberta. CAD 3 million is the maximum payment per producer and was not treated as the initiative budget. With explicit authorization, exchange_rate, budget_usd, counterpart_budget_usd, total_budget, years_count, and annual_average_budget remain NULL and must be completed before approval. The October 1, 2026 end date represents the late-enrolment deadline and not necessarily the completion of program payments.
