Large-Scale Well Drilling and Water-Harvesting Plan to Address Drought

Observations

On August 27, 2026, PRONADERS reported that well-drilling activities were under implementation and that the water-harvesting project would begin shortly. The institution reported approximately 50 drilling machines to be distributed across different areas of the country; this figure refers to machines and not to the total number of wells. SAG separately reported on August 24, 2026 that COPECO and PRONADERS were working on the construction of between 40 and 50 wells, but it did not provide a list, budget or individual implementation status. A PRONADERS publication dated June 18, 2026 confirmed the sequential start of three wells in Apacilagua, Choluteca. Current works were also reported in Ajuterique, Comayagua; El Lagartillo and El Tiguilote in Apacilagua, Choluteca; and San Pedro de Zacapa, Santa Bárbara, with an upcoming well in Las Mesas, San Antonio de Oriente, Francisco Morazán.
