Description

National initiative of Chile's Ministry of the Environment that, through the 29th Environmental Protection Fund Competition 2026, finances 144 citizen-led projects aimed at protecting, conserving or restoring the environment across all regions of the country. Projects are implemented by community organizations, neighborhood associations, parent organizations, nonprofit foundations and corporations, indigenous associations and communities, and other eligible organizations. Each selected project receives CLP 6,000,000 and may implement activities related to biodiversity conservation and restoration, environmental education, school or community gardens, waste management, climate change, energy savings and efficiency, and water efficiency.

Observations

On January 28, 2026, Chile's Ministry of the Environment announced the selection of 144 projects under the 29th Environmental Protection Fund Competition (FPA) 2026, with total financing of CLP 864,000,000. Each selected project receives CLP 6,000,000. Projects will be implemented during 2026 throughout all regions of Chile. Selected initiatives include ecosystem conservation, community environmental education, wetland protection, sustainable water management, recycling, composting, ecological restoration, energy efficiency and strengthening community environmental action. The Environmental Protection Fund was established under Law No. 19,300 on General Environmental Bases; Articles 66 to 68 regulate its administration, objectives and sources of resources. The budget conversion uses the Central Bank of Chile observed exchange rate for January 28, 2026, equivalent to CLP 862.17 per US dollar. The conversion is CLP 864,000,000 / 862.17 = USD 1,002,122.55.
