Description

Law 2046 of August 6, 2020, in Colombia establishes mechanisms to promote the participation of small local agricultural producers and peasant, family, and community agriculture in public food procurement markets. Institutions and private companies that receive state funds for food purchases are required to allocate up to 30% of their food procurement budget to local purchases from peasant, family, and community agriculture producers (Congress of Colombia, 2020). This same law provides for the creation of the National Technical Roundtable for Local Public Food Procurement as a coordinating body for the policy. Within this framework, the design of a public information system is contemplated to integrate various data related to small local agricultural producers and producers belonging to peasant, family, and community agriculture. The goal is to technically support decision-making for all stakeholders and ensure traceability in the participation process of local production (Congress of Colombia, 2020).
