Programa de seguro rural – MAPA Brasil (EN)

The Rural Insurance Program is an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) aimed at promoting access by family farmers to private rural insurance as an alternative to public insurance for managing climate risks. In 2021, MAPA implemented, for the second consecutive year, the Pilot Project for the Subsidy of Rural Insurance Premiums to finance credit operations covered by the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming (Pronaf). This incentivizes farmers accessing Pronaf credit to contract rural insurance instead of ProAgro Mais. ProAgro Mais is a public insurance scheme for small producers linked to Pronaf, covering losses above 30% of the financed area’s production.
