Building climate resilience from indigenous perspectives

Start Date: 28/03/2024
End Date: 31/03/2028

Description

This project aims to strengthen the climate resilience of indigenous peoples in Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala and Peru, promoting their rights and self-determination. It focuses on providing grants to projects that are co-implemented by indigenous communities. Activities include the creation of an Indigenous Steering Group and an Indigenous Wisdom and Knowledge Circle, the organization of knowledge-sharing spaces and regional forums on indigenous land management, and the promotion of indigenous participation in climate decisions and policy reforms. Expected outcomes include increased adoption of inclusive and self-determined, gender-sensitive solutions for climate change adaptation, with additional benefits for biodiversity. In addition, the project seeks to strengthen climate governance in indigenous communities and networks, promoting an approach that affirms their rights. It is also expected to increase joint action and knowledge exchange between communities in the North and South, especially among women and youth, to advance nature-based climate solutions that promote gender equity and indigenous rights.
