Asómbrate Peru Program

Start Date: 01/01/2023
End Date: 31/12/2024

Description

The Asómbrate program focuses on empowering small coffee and cocoa producers in Peru, allowing them to generate additional income through sustainable practices that help mitigate climate change. This program facilitates the participation of almost 1,000 farmers in the carbon credit market through the Acorn platform. Through agroforestry systems, 9,517 tons of CO2 have been captured in 2,100 hectares of coffee, generating income of S/ 839,453.63 for producers. What is novel about Asómbrate is its focus on carbon captured in agroforestry farms, an alternative to typical forest conservation. In addition to the sale of carbon credits, the program offers training and technical assistance to adopt more productive and sustainable agroforestry systems. This model, which incorporates timber tree species, not only improves carbon capture, but also diversifies farmers' income through the sale of wood.
